Lloyd was born in England but has lived all his adult life in Australia and New Zealand. His interest in self-discovery emerged in his teenage years when he started experimenting with fasting, meditation and other Eastern spiritual practices including an 18 month intensive spiritual retreat in the mountains of NZ. In his early twenties he became interested in healing childhood trauma and started learning body-oriented psychotherapy and cognitive approaches to change. Lloyd has had an ongoing interest in relationship dynamics. He spent three years working with the Loving Relationships Training (LRT) assisting on workshops, retreats and trainings. In 1988 he became certified in Breathwork, a psychotherapy approach that uses breathing, meditation and relaxation. Lloyd also holds a Bachelor of Psychology from Queensland University of Technology, a Graduate Certificate of Mental Health (Psychotherapy) from the University of Queensland, School of Medicine, and is now conducting psychotherapy research into the Breathwork approach as part of a Masters research program, at the Queensland University of Technology.

Lloyd has extensive experience in healing the effects of trauma and particularly, childhood trauma and abuse. He is the author of What Do I Really Want? A guide to personal happiness, which has been translated into Korean. This book explores the effect of childhood experience on the development of self-esteem and authentic self-expression in adult life.
