When you, or
you and your partner, decide to get counselling or psychotherapy
it is important that you feel comfortable and safe with the person you
are going to work with. It is normal to feel some anxiety in the
beginning. Sometimes you might need to look around a little to find
someone who is right for you. This can be very important for couples as
you will both want to feel comfortable with your counsellor. We are
happy to discuss the counselling process and answer any questions you
may have over the phone. This will give you a sense of whether you
would like to work with us. We are all unique and honouring your own
needs gets you off to a good start.
Counselling
needs to be supportive and nourishing. Many of our
problems in life result from limited beliefs we have around
nourishment. When we become aware of how we limit our experience of joy
and fulfillment, we can find new ways of letting nourishment in. While
life contains many difficulties and some suffering is part of being
human, we are committed to supporting you in taking unnecessary
suffering away.
Often a small
change in your inner experience can create a big change in your life.
At times, however, the core of the issue is very deep. Often our
deepest issues were formed in early childhood when we were vulnerable
and needed a lot of care and love. Time may be needed for this
vulnerable part of us to show up in counselling, therefore it is
crucial that we are sensitive and respectful to the pace of the work.

From our
experience, one of the most powerful ways to work is for you to study
how you organise yourself around your experiences. The
best way to achieve this is to be in a state of mindfulness where you
can observe your own responses. In mindfulness the process is slowed
down and mental chatter is lowered. From this space, your inner
experience can be gently explored and integrated. We trust that every
person has the inner wisdom needed for healing and for change to occur.
For couples who
want to improve their relationship, our aim is to support you in
finding the freedom to enjoy yourself and your relationship.
An immediate goal is often to reduce stress and conflict and find new
supportive and nourishing ways to be together. The promotion of
self-discovery is an integral part of couples therapy. If you think you
could use some help with your relationship we recommend you get it
sooner rather than later.
While it can be
a real challenge to find joy in life, it is definitely possible.
Often a person will achieve a lot of what he or she set out for but
still not find a sense of joy, satisfaction or happiness. Part of our
work is to help you experience a deeper sense of inner meaning and
fulfillment in your life.
One of the comments we hear from our clients quite often
is that they wish they hadn't waited so long to get some help. High
quality counselling and psychotherapy can make a real difference to
your experience of life - on all levels.
